The Institution of Engineers (India) was registered under the Indian Companies Act, 1913 in the year 1920 and was formally inaugurated in 1921 by Lord Chelmsford, the then Viceroy and Governor General of India. The Institution of Engineers (India) was granted the Royal Charter of Incorporation 1935 by His Majesty the King George V of England in 1935, “to promote and advance the science, practice and business of engineering in all its branches in India”. Starting with this humble beginning, The Institution of Engineers (India) is now an unique professional body encompassing 15 engineering disciplines and with an overall membership of over 0.5 million.

Sections 'A' and 'B' Examinations
Summer 2013 Sections 'A' and 'B' Examinations

The Summer 2013 Examinations of Sections 'A' and 'B' shall be conducted at 65 Examination Centres in India and abroad during June 01-07, 2013.

The dates June 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 and 07 will be referred to as Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 respectively.

Applications submitted during the period mentioned hereunder shall only be considered for Summer 2013 Examinations.

Candidates not appeared in Winter 2012 Examinations : February 20, 2013 to March 21, 2013.

 Candidates appeared in Winter 2012 Examinations : March 21, 2013 to April 19, 2013.


A candidate shall not be allowed to appear in the following schemes, if exceeding the number of subjects as mentioned against each scheme :

Section 'A' (Non-Diploma) -  4 Subjects;  Section 'A' (Diploma) -  All Subjects; Section 'B' - 4 subjects

Photocopy of the Examination Form shall be accepted if copied clearly on A4 size bond paper only. The Examination Form should be sent duly filled-in directly to the headquarters of the Institution with requisite fee of Rs. 2000/- by demand draft within the stipulated date.

Procedure for Calculating the Percentage of Marks

The procedure for calculating the percentage of marks is based on summation of maximum marks in the range of respective letter grades of each subject and dividing by the number of subjects, including the project work and the laboratory experiments.

Submission of Examination Forms after the last date shall cause automatic rejection of applications. Plea of ignorance in this respect shall not be accepted under any circumstances.
In case of non-receipt of the result of the last examinations for any reason whatsoever, candidates should submit the examination forms within the stipulated date mentioning the subjects in order of preference including the subjects appeared at the last examination. In such case, the subjects for appearing at the examination will be allotted giving preference to the choice of subjects, but excluding the exemptions, if any, permitting to appear in the next subject available in the sequential order of subject code.

The examination fee shall be refunded only to the passed candidates as per rules.

Time Limit for Carrying Forward Exemptions

A candidate shall be required to pass the Institution Examinations, both in Existing Scheme and Revised Scheme, within a specific period as mentioned hereunder :
Section A : 6 Years
Section B : 6 Years
No further extension shall be permitted beyond the stipulated period.
